The vast majority of my photos are taken more or less spontaneously, when I go to take pictures alone or with my girlfriend.
But sometimes comes the idea for a photo , where detailed planning is required.

This is the story about photographing a sunset behind a tree, which is located above lake Radehova in Slovenske gorice.

On the road, which leads from the direction of Lenart through Radehovo past Sveta Trojica and on towards Ptuj, I've driven a lot of miles already.
This spring, while driving home from morning photoshoot, I got the idea to take this photo.

I immediately stopped by the road, took the phone and checked with the app for planning sunrises or sunsets, when the sunset will be behind the tree again. Unfortunately, I found out, that the sun will set there again around 20. September.

We had to wait for about half a year, to try realizing my idea. My girlfriend and I went to take the photo on 19. September, an hour before sunset, so that we had enough time to prepare.

The location from which my girlfriend and I photographed a distant tree.

Screen shot of the air distance between our standing point and the tree (about 1800m) according to the google earth :)

Such photo can be taken only, if you are very far away from the subject (in this case the tree) and then zoom in on it with the long lens.

I photographed it with my tamron 150-600 at 600mm. An additional crop was needed later in post production, so that the desired result was achieved.

To get the sun behind the tree, we had to move left and right with our tripod and a camera, and press the shutter button at the right moment, because the sun moved quickly from its ideal position.

Here is the end result.
